Saw this is facebook marketplace. Honestly, I think it’s a pretty good deal. $2200 for 157,000 miles. It’s a 2.5RS
Here’s the seller’s description:
2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS
“I am selling my Subaru 2.5rs because I am upgrading. It has been a great car to me for the past 1.5 years or so. Great in the snow and always reliable. I am asking $2200. It has 157,6xx miles on it.
It has a two way remote start I had installed which is amazing for the winter. It has a range of 2000 feet which also works for power lock and unlock.
It has aftermarket cams, AEM intake, and a Stromung exhaust. There is a check engine light because of an 02 sensor, because of an exhaust leak which is not a hard repair if wanted to fix.
Any issues with it are purely aesthetic. There is a dent in the door from a previous owner, and there are the regular surface rust spots on the rear quarters that all Subaru’s of this age seem to get.
The motor was fully rebuilt professionally at around 120,000 miles. All paperwork is in hand. This includes the head gasket that was replaced which always goes on these motors.
What I have done to it:
03/17 - New Brake Pads and Rotors all around
06/23/17 - 153,160 Conventional Oil Change
08/2/17 - 153,800 Knock Sensor and New NGK Spark Plug Wires
08/10/17 - 153,900 NGK Platinum Spark Plugs
10/17 - 4 new all season tires
12/21/17 - 157,223 Synth Blend Oil Change Read Less”

Having owned a 2004 I can tell you the bottom of that car is going to be a rust nightmare. There was a recall on the front control A arms for rust-proofing in fact.
https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2244117
I’d make sure that was done. Also other recalls/issues like the fuel lines being too short and cracking and leaking fuel in cold weather.
And at 160k there are lots of little things that will start to or already are going wrong.
And cams and an intake/exhaust on an automatic 165HP NA economy car? Slightly better than a civic I guess?
That said these things are easy to wrench on yourself, almost the whole car can be taken apart with a 10 and 12 mm wrench and the price is right. Aftermarket support is ridiculous, WRX/Forester parts generally bolt right on. Potential good rally/ice racing shell.

NP but I hate when people say something like “which is not a hard repair if wanted to fix.” Why would you leave something broken if its “easy” to fix? Its understandable, especially at this pricepoint, to say something is just plain broken. No need to meander around it or downplay the importance. I do not see “exhaust leak” as a dealbreaker, just something to investigate further. But I do see “easy fix” and “light rust” to mean “actually a pile of shit that I need to offload because i cant stand it anymore”. Now its still worth the price, but its just something that irks me and im sure turns away plenty of potential buyers outright.

I want to know who left their helmet out in the cold on the post in the background.

Setting aside the fact that this car is held together by rust, I’m really struck by the claim that the remote start has a 2000 foot range.

tis an auto, with rust, and a dent, and a CEL. I’d say it’s price it about right for the market.

WRX’s aren’t as cheap as 2.5RS’
